WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Saturday morning that Iran is "certainly interested in de-escalation", describing regime change in Iran as a "mission impossible."
"You cannot do regime change while millions of people are supporting the so-called regime," Araghchi said in an exclusive interview with NBC News.
Minutes after strikes on Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump urged members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, armed forces and police to lay down their weapons in exchange for immunity, and called on the Iranian public to "take over the government".
Araghchi said Iran is attacking U.S. military facilities in the Middle East but not "Americans in their land," signaling that Iran is ready to talk.
"There is no communication right now," Araghchi told NBC News, "But if Americans want to talk to us, they know how they can contact me. We are certainly interested in de-escalation."
"This is a war of choice by the United States, and they have to pay for that," Araghchi added. "But as far as we are concerned, we don't want war." ■
