MADRID, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Three Spanish sides are in European action on Thursday, with Real Betis and Celta Vigo looking to reach the semifinals of the Europa League, while Rayo Vallecano looks to move into the last four of the Conference League.
Rayo is well placed to progress to a European semifinal for the first time in its history after a stunning 3-0 win at home to AEK Athens last week, but coach Inigo Perez will be wary of fatigue among his players, who succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in Mallorca on Sunday.
Perez rested a host of regular starters in Mallorca, and players such as Jorge de Frutos, Pathe Ciss, Isi Palazon and Alemao should all be fresh for Thursday's clash.
Betis looks well placed to reach the semifinal of the Europa League after last week's 1-1 draw away to Sporting Braga. Although coach Manuel Pellegrini was forced to play a strong side in Sunday's La Liga draw away to Osasuna, he should be able to freshen up his starting 11 with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Aitor Ruibal.
Celta Vigo has had a difficult week, with a 3-0 Europa League defeat at Freiburg followed by a 3-0 defeat at home to La Liga's bottom side Oviedo on Sunday, as coach Claudio Giraldez rested forwards Borja Iglesias, Iago Aspas and Ferran Jutgla for Thursday's attempt to turn the Freiburg tie around.
It looks like a big ask for a Celta team that is starting to pay the physical price of fighting on two fronts, with only one win from the last five league games. ■
